New research shows that fine fibers like spider silk actually improve the quality of microphones for consumer products.
Binghamton University distinguished professor Ron Miles and graduate student Jian Zhou conducted research into the hearing systems of spiders. They found that in mimicking the hairs of spiders, which hear through sensing the flow of air, they could make an improved microphone with directional sensing. Now, these hairs are being adapted into microphones that improve any product.
